You know that thing you don’t feel ready for?
As I dance through my Leonie Dawson 2015 Create Your Shining Year Workbook and reflect on 2014, much comes to surface.
For me, 2014 was a year of letting go to make room for the new, and “the new” did emerge and actually take root.
Some years we only have the energy to let go. Others, the space to bring in the new. I did both this year, and it was one of my most remarkable yet.
I released old; habits, ways of relating, conditioned responses, remnants of suffering.
I brought in fresh, new; life-giving habits, energy, emotions, patterns of joy.
I learned many lessons, used countless obstacles as fuel, up-leveled my inner world, and through it all – what rises to the top for me is this:
DO the thing that scares you… the thing you feel in no way ready for. Yup.
“Fear is a natural reaction to moving closer to the truth.” – Pema Chodron
I know this now, with absolute certainty.
I’ll admit something very private. I’ve been afraid to succeed. I was afraid if I stepped out in public, and actually made more-than-enough money doing what I am here to do on this planet (inc. giving back), I would lose that success and then what? I was afraid to fail and go back to corporate not only with my tail between my legs but in a position to tell all of you.
“Fear is excitement without breath.” – Maggie Ostara
I chose to breathe through the fear so I might expand, and had my highest revenue year yet while making the difference I am here to make.
You can too.
Fear will steal everything from you, if you allow it.
I learned that on the other side of our fear is everything we’ve ever wanted. In fact, unless we are in mortal danger, that fear is actually telling you where you should go.
If you aren’t afraid – it really isn’t worth trying. Why? Because it probably isn’t worth your time and energy in terms of what you will gain from the experience.
What I have come to discover is…
The higher your degree of fear – especially, fear with excitement attached to it – the greater probability for extremely high levels of fulfillment upon achieving it.
My Coach asked me to speak solo to 300+ people at her annual Zone Event last month. Had I not managed my nerves, I would never have been deeply reminded that:
– Being on stage is like going home to me.
– Looking into the eyes of those in the audience filled my heart so much, I felt it would explode.
– I am here to deliver a message to large groups of people in service to the greater good.
And THAT was worth every single bit of fear.
Was I “ready”? Uh, no.
Was I ready to leave corporate when I did, and never look back? Actually, I was scared out of my mind. I kept waiting to be comfortable. Twenty years later, I decided I never would be and made my exit. Now I can’t even find the rear view mirror.
What are you afraid to do?
What do you NOT feel ready for?
Go do that.
Did you know that IS where your best life begins?
Here’s a secret:
We are never “ready” for the next step, because that step is always, always – outside our comfort zone.
Change never happens within our comfort zone.
That means, if you feel comfortable right now – you are not growing, nor are you moving in the direction of your dreams.
Get uncomfortable. I promise, it won’t kill you ;).
It will however, free you.
Talk to me. Tell me below what you are ‘not’ ready for that you are NOW deciding to do in 2015.
Love & Light,
