How to cure what-makes-me-so-special-itis
I was talking to a woman from this community recently. She has a beautiful idea for her dream business and life but has no idea where to begin. This is a very common dilemma of course and why gorgeous souls like hers want to talk with me. As we uncovered what stops her from taking steps forward, she said…. and this is what broke my heart… “What do I have to offer that’s so special from everyone else?” As we talked, it was clear she knows droves of people whom she considers special. She has bought their products and services. Her life has been greatly enhanced (even transformed) from what they offer but she doesn’t put herself in that same light. Sad, right?
I hear this so often, and oh… it breaks my heart.
Do you share her feelings of not being good enough? Special enough? Or whatever enough? We have ALL struggled with this, at one time or another. I will tell you how you can begin to build your sense of self worth but for now, please allow what I have to say next to really sink in, okay?
Beloved, there will never be another you in the history of man-woman-kind – ever. There was no YOU before you were born, and there will never be another YOU when you are gone (even if you have kids). It is impossible to duplicate YOU. Think about all that makes up who you are. Of course, this includes life experiences, education etc. but what about your HEART and SOUL? Who can imitate or compete with that, right?! (By the way, I walk you through a full inventory of YOU in my free audio program, as a first step toward helping you uncover passions that could lead to prosperity.).
I know it can be scary to think of putting yourself out there but imagine if Oprah allowed that fear to stop her… or Martin Luther King, Ghandi, Mother Teresa, and the countless other brave souls who have changed the world. Now you may not aspire to be Martin Luther King 😉 but you are very likely yearning to set yourself free to be a much brighter version of yourself – one with the power to change the lives of those around you, in whatever way you feel called to.
So, did you let that sink in? Did you hear me when I said… there will never be another you… seriously… never… and it may only be you who can make the difference for someone else. I know for me, there are people who are able to influence me when no one else can. If they held back, I would not be who I am today.
How do you build your sense of self-worth and value? How do you begin to believe you have something extraordinary to offer the world? Take notice that it is not a matter of whether you have something extraordinary to offer. It is only a matter of believing it.
By virtue of the fact they broke the mold when you were born…
The only thing ordinary is trying to be like everyone else when you, by nature, are not.
#1: Really, fully embrace the fact that there is no one like you walking this earth… there never has been, and there never will be. This alone should help you see just how special you are. Embrace this fact, and capitalize on it. Bring your talents to full bare in all you do. Don’t waste a speck of it.
#2: When we mimic or copy others… we devalue ourselves. In essence, when we try too much to be like others, we are saying we aren’t good enough and this reinforces our belief that we aren’t. Interesting how that works, isn’t it?! In other words, once you begin to love and appreciate who you are and live from that authentic place, you are essentially showing yourself that you are special and different. Breaking free from the pack is particularly rewarding when it comes to building self-worth, and it is a necessity when it comes to entrepreneurial endeavors or any passion-pumped pursuit.
#3: Surround yourself with others who are stepping out into the world with the courage and confidence that they have something special to offer, without apology. We are incredibly influenced by those around us. Find those who are shining their light brighter and brighter and changing their corner of the world in doing so. Through their liberation, you will find yours.
Also know this – everyone you see out there shining their light has struggled with a sense of what-makes-me-so-special-it is, myself included. Most of us have decided that we will not allow our insecurities to keep us from what we know we are called to do. Turning up your light drowns out the darkness, and we need more people doing that, wouldn’t you agree?
#4: If you haven’t already, take advantage of my free audio program. It will help you gain confidence in yourself, and clarity in your direction.
#5: Lastly, please… whenever you are tempted to say to yourself, ““What do I have to offer that’s so special from everyone else?” – immediately replace that thought with, “There is no one else in the world who can be me, or do things like I do with my heart behind it. I have extraordinary qualities, and I know these qualities are very much needed by those I am here to serve. I am committed to figuring out how to live with courage, get over my fears, and live the life I am meant to live.”
Just try it ;), even if it feels uncomfortable at first. Doesn’t pretty much anything new feel a little awkward at first? The more we do it, the easier it is!
I must admit, it is difficult for me to stop writing. I just skipped my favorite Spinning class for goodness sake! If you knew me better, you’d know that’s HUGE. This subject is near and dear to my heart and honestly; I could pour my heart out all night to you.
Take the steps above and tell me how it goes, okay?
You. Are. Special. Please, never forget that.

P.S. I’d be remiss not to mention that we have an awesome group of women gathering to come out of hiding and shine (corporate folks and small business owners). This group will close January 31, 2014. For now (until the program page is up), the best way to learn more is to START HERE. Just shoot me a quick note using the form HERE, and we’ll go from there. No pressure or obligation whatsoever. This is your life. It’s extremely important it is the right fit, and this goes both ways. I chose who I invest in too. The most common comment I get on the price by the way: “That’s totally doable.”
